What I Am p.150 Ch. 17

"And I am an illegal alien." p. 150. This quote is something that throughout the whole book, they've kept secret! See my earlier post for more info. Aisha, Nadira, and the whole family has always made a big deal about never telling anyone family secrets. I think that it might have been a good idea for Aisha to tell everyone their secret. I'm not sure if it was a good idea though. What do you think?

Vote on my poll and tell me what you think! :)

Ch.16 Finding A Place

"...especially when the sky goes dark: the person guiding slowly from behind. That's who I've become in my family." p.137 Ch. 16. This quote makes me very happy. :) Nadira is finally finding her place in the family. It's the point we've all been waiting for!

Mother With Friends Ch.15 p.128

""Your mother's the best," one lady tells me. "I never seen a lady so brave. Every day she sits out-side that courthouse doing what she has to do." I can't believe it." p.128. I think that this quote is sad, but good. Nadira is seeing that her mother has friends and that her friends are true friends. This would be kind-of encouraging to Nadira (I think.) Confident For Once Ch.13 p.119

"I feel strong and solid. Sure. The other day I talked to a girl at college. I've got an envelope of money in my backpack. And now I've got secret business to take care of... For the first time I feel like I can run, fast. And I run all the way to the bus." p.119
I like this quote a lot. Nadira has finally got some self-confidence which makes me very happy. It's sad though that in the next chapter she loses all of that self-confidence. I hope that she is able to build it back up again. What do you think?

First Time Ch.12 p.113 :

"This is the first time I've ever done this, but I put my arms around my sister." p.113. I think that this quote is extremely sad. It's sad that she's never put her arm around her sister to comfort her. I think that this is another big/good step in the girls relationship. :) I think that Nadira is becoming more like Aisha, and Aisha's becoming more like Nadira. What do you think?

Plenty of Room Ch.11 p.89

""There's plenty of room, Nadira. You just have to learn how to grab it."" I think that this quote is interesting. Aisha's admitting Nadira to a whole new world. Aisha is giving Nadira advice as to her (what Nadira believed to be) her secret. Finally, Aisha seems to be giving Nadira a little advice as to how to get the spotlight. :) What do you think?

Ch. 10 Aisha's Attitude *I can conivnce anyone anything* p.87

"Aisha is sobbing harder now. "No, you're wrong. I should have convinced them. If only I'd said the right thing. If only I said more-"". Wow! A lot of things happened in chapter 10!! (Well, just one major thing.) This quote shows Aisha's self-esteem level. It shows that Aisha thinks she can convince anyone of anything! She's always seemed like the perfect little angel 0:-) to everyone (except Nadira). She's always gotten what she wants. Its almost liek she thinks she has a super power-that she can convince anyone anything!! Now, she still thinks that she could have convinced them, but she couldn't of. I think that this is sad. :( What do you think?

*Never Tell Anyone* :-X Ch.9 p.69

"Never tell anyone anything private about the family. Never air your troubles. That would spoil our honor. I've never had a friend over at our apartment-not even Lily." p.69. I find this quote very sad. I can't imagine being so secretive that not even my best friend had ever been over to my house! I can't imagine growing up and being told that I could never tell anyone if I was having a bad day! :(

Never Tell Anyone Chapter 9 p.69

Ask Me No Questions Ch. 7-8 page 67

"Everything looks different to us now: the streets, the tar roofs, the park. I inch a little closer to Aisha. None of this is ours anymore, we realize, and for the rest of the ride we say nothing." I think that this quote is sad but kind-of sweet. It's nice in that the sisters are finally starting to get along. It's sad how everything is completely different for Nadira and Aisha now. :(

AMNQ vs. WetBack (Movie)

In WetBack, there are two men who are leaving Nicuagra (Central America) to go to Canada (Northern America). One man seems more into it, and happier about their trip so far. The other man though, seems to be missing his family and feeling worse about their situation. These two men remind be of Nadira and Aisha. Aisha seems to be hoping for the best and trying to remain positive. Nadira though seems to look at the negative side of things. In both cases, (the book and the movie), they have difficult situations.

Ch.5 AMNQ Quote

I liked this quote: "We're not the only illegals at our school. We're everywhere. You just have to look." I think this quote is true in everyday life, but in a different way. There's so many things that people just don't notice. Every person has a life and is unique. There's so many things that we just don't know about people all around us. There's alot of secrets in the world. Maybe if people just paid more attention, we might notice alot more. :) There's alot more to everyone than we notice. :) What do you think? :)

Quote on page 29. :)

Ask Me No Questions (The Book So Far)

So far, I've found the book pretty interesting. I find it interesting how the author seems to be focusing more on Nadira and Aisha's relationship than the fact that their parents aren't with them. What do you think?

Ch. 6 Nadira's Self Respect p.49

On page 49, Nadira talks about what she sees herself as; "In the mirror all I see is a fat girl with chubby hands. I look stupid, not like someone who's good at math or anything else. And definitely not like a daughter who can help her parents." This quote shows how Nadira has practically no self-respect. It makes me sad how badly she feels about herself. I think that the author is purposely saying : "And definitely not like a daughter who can help her parents," so that later on when she can help her family, the reader will be more suprised. That's my prediction. What do you think?

Maddie's Chapter 3 quote

In her blog, Maddie talked about how the girls should just learn to deal with eachother. They're stuck together, so they might as well start talking to eachother. I understand how Nadira is angry at Aisha. Aisha has been extremely rude to her. I also see how Aisha might not be happy haveting to take her sister around with her everywhere. Still, I think they could atleast talk to eachother. What do you think?

Ask me no questions 3-4

“She holds her hands out in a peace offering.” I am surprised by the movement on Aisha’s part. The girls haven’t ever really gotten along. I hoped Aisha would be nice, but this is suprising to me. I’m kind-of surprised that Nadira didn’t agree. I hope that it all turns out okay.
